  • The Empire of Man - Book Series Review

Posted on April 15, 2014 by Tao

Not been writing a lot of book reviews since I haven't actually read anything good recently.  Read a few books, but if I can't even make it through the book why would I write about it?  So, here's an oldie review.

The Empire of Man (aka as Prince Roger's Journey aka as March Upcountry) series focuses on the far future and one rather spoiled Prince Roger McClintock.  The series tells the story of Prince Roger and his personal guard, the Bronze Battalion of the Empress's Own, as they cross the hostile and alien world of Marduk where they have been marooned after an unsuccessful assassination attempt.  Written by John Ringo (of the Oh, John Ringo, no fame) and David Weber (of the Honor Harrington series); it's a space opera / military science-fiction romp  that has entire world building aspects added to a coming-of-age story.

  • Game of Thrones Headcount Infographic

Posted on April 11, 2014 by Tao

Okay, infographic doesn't really contain any spoilers since it names no names, and everyone knows Mr.Martin likes his deaths. Still, it is an infographic on deaths in Game of Thrones so be warned.

  • Divergent - Movie Review

Posted on April 8, 2014 by Tao

Firstly, never read the books.  We only went to watch Divergent because it was the most interesting movie out at the time and we desperately needed to get out of the house.  The headline summary - not bad, a decent way to kill a few hours but don't apply logic.

  • The 100 : Pilot Review

Posted on March 31, 2014 by Tao

    Series Logo for the 100

Caught The 100 on Netflix very recently and I have to say I'm pretty excited.  The 100 is set 97 years in the future after a nuclear war on earth has wiped out (supposedly) life on earth.  Survivors of the 26(?) space stations orbiting the earth have joined the space stations together into a makeshift 'Ark' but they are running out of time.   As such, they send a 100 of their population - the Juvenile Delinquents - to earth to see if it is inhabitable.

Posted on March 21, 2014 by Tao

I was bouncing around the Internet recently, looking up Firefly forums / chatboards / websites / etc and I kept running into dead links. Some were domains that no longer were held, others domains that were registered but no longer hosted anywhere and some were forums that hadn't had a post in 4 years.

Just came back from the Toronto Comic-Con as Fortress Geek and we are (mostly) recovered from the long trip over.  It was a lot of fun having a chance to visit Toronto (I even managed to sneak a trip in to Snakes & Lattes) while working the event.
