  • Massively Multiplayer: Book Review

Posted on September 11, 2014 by Tao

Massively Multiplayer by P. Aaron Potter is an amazing book and a great example of the eBook revolution and the kind of quality that can come from it.  I picked it up via a Humble Bundle and I must say, there were certainly quite a few good books in there but this one stood out.

  • Edge of Tomorrow: A Review

Posted on June 19, 2014 by Tao

Edge of Tomorrow was an interesting movie to watch. Reminiscent of Groundhog Day a lot I have to admit, with Tom Cruise as Bill Murray and action sequences replacing Murray learning new tricks. Overall, it was a fun watch but it wasn't amazing and having to watch it in in 3D certainly made our temples [...]

  • The Empire of Man - Book Series Review

Posted on April 15, 2014 by Tao

Not been writing a lot of book reviews since I haven't actually read anything good recently.  Read a few books, but if I can't even make it through the book why would I write about it?  So, here's an oldie review.

The Empire of Man (aka as Prince Roger's Journey aka as March Upcountry) series focuses on the far future and one rather spoiled Prince Roger McClintock.  The series tells the story of Prince Roger and his personal guard, the Bronze Battalion of the Empress's Own, as they cross the hostile and alien world of Marduk where they have been marooned after an unsuccessful assassination attempt.  Written by John Ringo (of the Oh, John Ringo, no fame) and David Weber (of the Honor Harrington series); it's a space opera / military science-fiction romp  that has entire world building aspects added to a coming-of-age story.

  • The 100 : Pilot Review

Posted on March 31, 2014 by Tao

    Series Logo for the 100

Caught The 100 on Netflix very recently and I have to say I'm pretty excited.  The 100 is set 97 years in the future after a nuclear war on earth has wiped out (supposedly) life on earth.  Survivors of the 26(?) space stations orbiting the earth have joined the space stations together into a makeshift 'Ark' but they are running out of time.   As such, they send a 100 of their population - the Juvenile Delinquents - to earth to see if it is inhabitable.

  • Geek Retrospective : Babylon 5

Posted on September 3, 2013 by Tao

Watching Babylon 5 again, I have to admit that some of the gloss has come off. Don't get me wrong, the series is still a landmark in Science Fiction TV with it's series & season long arcs, tight storytelling and magnitude of the series.
Yet, some of what it did has now been done - better [...]

Andromeda the TV Series (not to be confused with the galaxy) aired between 2001 and 2006 for 5 seasons and starred, among many; Kevin Sorbo. Yes, Mr. Hercules himself.  In fact, here's a picture of the cast and crew of Andromeda:
